To calculate the volume of seafreight, you will need to know the dimensions of the shipment in centimeters or inches, as well as the weight of the shipment in kilograms or pounds.
The formula for calculating the volume of seafreight is:
Length x Width x Height / 1000000 = Volume in Cubic Meters
For example, if you have a shipment with the dimensions of 200 cm x 100 cm x 80 cm and a weight of 500 kg, the volume would be calculated as follows:
200 x 100 x 80 / 1000000 = 1.6 cubic meters
In this case, the shipment has a volume of 1.6 cubic meters, which is the amount of space the shipment will occupy in the container. This information is important for determining the total shipping cost, as shipping lines charge based on the volume of the cargo as well as its weight.
It’s also important to note that when calculating the volume of seafreight, you should consider the dimensions of the pallet or packaging used to transport the goods. This is because the pallet or packaging can add additional space that must be accounted for when calculating the volume of the shipment. Do note that some coloaders calculate volume on a different ration such as 1:666, that means that 1 cbm = 666kg instead of common calculation of 1:1000.
